God in La La Land: A Christian Perspective by Randy Lovejoy, Editor (January 11, 2019)

"History can be as dry as dust. History in Los Angeles even more so. For Los Angeles is thought, even by Angelenos, to be a city built on a desert.  But this is a myth. 'El Pueblo de Neustra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles sobre el Río Porciúncula' as the city was once called, is officially classified as a Mediterranean climate; wonderful for succulents and perfect for Christianity, given the soil in which the church first took root. 'L.A. as desert' is just one of many fruitful dreams, stories and legends which have been part of this city since it founding." (from the first chapter of God in LA LA Land)
